Finland is ranked the world's happiest country for the sixth year in a row, and Latvia has climbed to 41st place, although it still lags behind Lithuania and Estonia, according to the latest UN World Happiness Report.
UN experts have presented a new ranking of countries in the world according to the index of people's happiness "The World Happiness Report-2023".
The 2023 World Happiness Report is a triennial analysis of 2020-2022 that has been heavily impacted by COVID-19 and other major challenges.
The top three have not changed since last year. For the sixth year in a row, Finland has been ranked number one as the happiest in the world. This year, its score is well ahead of other countries in the top ten. Denmark continues to rank second and Iceland remains 3rd.
Latvia has risen from 42nd place to 41st.
Lithuania, which was ranked 34th last year, has risen to 20th place and is the only newcomer to the list of the world's 20 happiest nations. Meanwhile, Estonia has moved up five positions to 31st place.
The authors of the report note that the Baltic countries have significantly improved their performance in recent years. Especially impressive is the increase in Estonia's ranking - from 66th place in 2017 to 31st place in 2023. Latvia's growth was also significant, from 54th place in 2017 to 41st place in 2023.
