Riga named one of the world’s most walkable cities in 2026

27-05-2026

Riga has once again received international recognition as one of the most convenient cities for everyday life and exploring on foot. According to the latest Time Out ranking, The world’s most walkable cities in 2026, according to locals, the Latvian capital was included among the world’s most walkable cities with an 83% walkability score. The ranking is based on Time Out’s annual survey of city residents, who evaluated how easy and enjoyable it is to explore their city on foot.

Riga was also included in Time Out’s list of Europe’s most walkable cities in 2026, where it appears among 13 leading European cities alongside Edinburgh, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Paris, Helsinki, Kraków, Vienna, Amsterdam, Tallinn, Zurich and Munich.

For Riga, this recognition is especially meaningful. Walkability is not only a tourism advantage. It is a sign of urban quality, everyday comfort and the real value of a location. In a city where residents can walk to the historic centre, parks, the Daugava waterfront, restaurants, cultural venues and business districts, real estate gains additional lifestyle value.

For buyers and investors, this matters directly. A convenient urban environment increases the appeal of property both for living and for rental demand. Apartments and homes in walkable locations are often perceived as more liquid assets because they match today’s demand for comfort, mobility, infrastructure access and a higher quality of life.

Latvia, and Riga in particular, offers a rare combination within the European real estate market: an EU capital, historic architecture, developed infrastructure, proximity to water, green areas and a calmer rhythm of life compared with many larger metropolitan cities. These qualities are becoming increasingly important for international buyers, families, investors and clients who evaluate property not only emotionally, but strategically.

The Time Out 2026 ranking confirms once again that Riga is a city worth considering not only for travel, but also for living, long-term investment and establishing a European base.
