Latvia welcomes the intention of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to open an embassy in Riga. The opening of an embassy will be an important step in fostering closer political and economic cooperation between Latvia and the UAE.
The UAE is currently Latvia's largest trade partner in the Persian Gulf Region. Since the opening of the Embassy of Latvia in Abu Dhabi in 2014, cooperation has increased and Latvia’s exports to the UAE have tripled. Total trade in the third quarter of 2015 amounted to 73.09 million euros. Latvia’s main exports are electrical appliances, timber and timber products, and glass fibre products.
